## The Search for the Perfect Warm White
When we decided to limewash our living room walls, we thought the hard part was over. After all, we'd already committed to the technique — how difficult could choosing a colour be?
Turns out, very difficult.
### The Limewash Learning Curve
Limewash behaves differently from regular paint. The colour shifts as it dries, deepening and developing that beautiful, chalky texture we love. This meant our carefully chosen samples looked completely different once they were on the wall.
> "Every wall surface, every light condition, every time of day — it all affects how limewash appears."
### Our Testing Process
We ordered samples from three different Spanish suppliers:
- **Supplier A**: Traditional lime-based, very matte
- **Supplier B**: Modern lime-wash finish, slightly more durable
- **Supplier C**: Tinted limewash with natural pigments
Each sample went on a different section of wall, and we lived with them for two weeks, observing how they looked in morning light, afternoon sun, and evening lamplight.
### The Winner
In the end, we chose a warm white from Supplier B called "Piedra Blanca" (White Stone). It has just the faintest hint of warmth — almost imperceptible, but enough to feel cosy rather than clinical.
### Budget Breakdown
| Item | Cost |
|------|------|
| Sample pots (3) | €45 |
| Full order (20L) | €180 |
| Brushes & tools | €35 |
| **Total** | **€260** |
### DIY Tips
1. **Always do test patches** — at least 1 square meter each
2. **Wait the full drying time** — limewash changes dramatically
3. **Consider your light** — south-facing rooms need different tones
4. **Embrace imperfection** — that's the charm of limewash
The finished result is everything we hoped for: a soft, textured wall that changes subtly throughout the day, bringing Mediterranean warmth to our Spanish home.
